Elon Musk has clarified that the next iteration of Tesla’s Humanoid Robot, Optimus V3, has not yet been publicly revealed. His comments were sent on social media platform on X when Tesla enthusiasts discussed recent pictures of Optimus V2 and V2.5.
Musk’s comment followed a recent video, shared by Salesforce CEO Marc Benioff, who showed Musk, demonstrating an updated Optimus prototype equipped with Grok AI.
Updated Optimus V2
The short video broadcast by Benioff showed a gold-colored Optimus device that answered questions through Teslas The AI assistant and took preliminary steps. The addition of Grok suggests that Tesla is trying to integrate conversation AI directly into Optimus and expand its potential uses beyond mechanical movement to include workplace and consumer interaction.
Optimus in the video was very different from the V2 units previously shown by the company. Its hands looked more human (though they seemed to be mannequin space holders) and its body was painted gold. In a follow-up post, the official Tesla Optimus account teased the updated design with functional hands with the heading “I have worked on my figure.”
Future versions
It was no surprise then that some in the Tesla community had the impression that the refined version of the prototype contained in the new images was Optimus V3. After all, with its more advanced hands, forearms and slim new paint jobs, the unit, after all, could very well be a whole new development of humanoid robot. According to musk, however, this was not the case.
In a response to an X user who compared progress with Optimus with Starship’s Raptor V1, V2 and V3 engines, CEO clarified that Tesla has not yet shown Optimus V3. He also noted that the new images of the humanoid robot were of Optimus V2.5. “We haven’t shown Optimus V3 yet. It’s sublimely. The other two pictures are V2 and V2.5,” Musk wrote in his answer.
Optimus plays a huge role in Tesla’s future, where the robot is expected to be a high volume product that is a cornerstone of the company’s persecution against sustainable abundance. Elon Musk’s pay package from 2025 also involves direct Optimus, where one of his goals is the delivery of 1 million Optimus robots.
