Tesla starts expanding Robotaxi Access: Here's how you can ride

Tesla has begun to expand Robotaxi Access in addition to the initial small group it offered trips to at the end of June when it launched the driverless platform in Austin, Texas.

The small group of people who enjoy Robotaxi Ride-Hailing Service is now growing as more residents in the Austin area receive invitations to test the platform for themselves.

The first rides took place on June 22, and despite a very small number of very manageable and expected hiccups, Tesla Robotaxi was widely successful with the launch.

However, Tesla is expanding the availability of the Ride-Hailing service to those living in Austin and its surrounding areas, hoping to collect more data and give access to those who will use them daily.

Many of the people Tesla originally invited, including us, are not local for the Austin area.

There are a handful of people who are, but Tesla was obviously looking for a more stable data collection when many of the early invited people went back to the place they live.

The first handful of invitations in the second round of the Robotaxi Platform’s early access program is on its way out to Austin Local:

Tesla probably saw an influx of data during the first week when many traveled far and wide to say they were among the first to test the Robotaxi platform.

Now that the first week and a half of the test is over, Tesla is expanding invitations to others. Many of those who have been selected to access the Robotaxi app, and the Ride-Hailing service say they simply filled out the interest form on the Robotaxi page on the Tesla site.

It is the easiest way you can also access, so be sure to fill out that form if you have any interest in riding in Robotaxi.

Tesla will continue to use data accumulated from these rides to enable more progress, and eventually it will cause even more people to hail rides from the driverless platform.

With more success, Tesla will start phasing out some of the security monitors and supervisors it uses to make sure things are running smoothly. CEO Elon Musk said Tesla could begin to increase the number of robotaxis for screens within the next few months.
