Unfortunately, when people move out, their pets do not always go with them. Such a pet was a severely malnourished dog that had been left in a box when her owner was thrown out. When she was found, she quickly faded. With your support, however, we were able to save a hand to make sure she got what she needed to survive.
Pennsylvania SPCA says the puppy, later appointed Lexi, was brought in by Philadelphia Animal Control Officers as soon as they found her.
The shelter says, “What we saw, broke our hearts. Lexi was lean – she weighed only 18 pounds. Her temperature was dangerously low and her eyes were distant and unemployed. She was so weak that she couldn’t lift her head, so much less standing. The suffering she had endured was beyond words. But even at that moment, there was a flick of hope.

The team made sure she was hot and then came to work on giving her IV fluids and an album intransfusion. Then the care was needed around the clock to ensure that Lexi gathered and regained his health. Thanks to your clicks, trivia participation, shopping for a case and direct donations, we are able to provide shelters such as Pennsylvania SPCA with important supplies such as food, vaccines, beds and enrichment topics, so they have more money to devote to medical treatments for special cases like Lexi.
This medical treatment proved good for her. These days she has recovered and blasts love from her Forever family.
Another Pennsylvania SPCA puppy, whose story you helped change is Slim Jim. When he was rescued from the streets, Slim Jim’s bones stood out under his skin and his eyes were dull from his struggle to live.
The shelter says, “He was starving. In fact, he had been starving that he had eaten rubber bands and other household waste … We discovered that Slim Jim was fighting more than just hunger. He had ear infections, intestinal parasites, lyme illness and painful arthritis. This disorder had not been new. It had been for some time. Veterinary care.

It included a slow, careful re -fertilizer plan and the medicines he needed for his various disorders. It took time, but healing found its way to the suffering puppy. From the latest update, Slim Jim is said to be full of life and ready to find his forever home.
Lexi and Slim Jim today thrive thanks to your support for shelters and the animals that come through their doors. Thanks! If you would like to continue delivering supplies to shelters so that they can use more focus on medical treatment, click below!
